New Delhi: CCTV Central Control Room has been made in Zoo Delhi, which will monitor 465 high-definition cameras that have been installed at the zoo place not only to oversee visitors but also observe animal behavior.
The control room was inaugurated on Wednesday by the guest head of Soumitra Dasgupta (ADG Wildlife) and Guest Honorary SP YADAV (secretary of members of the Central Zoo Authority).
Zoo officials say while CCTV cameras have been used in the past, they are temporary installations that will shift from locations to locations depending on their use.
In 2019, CCTV cameras were used to conduct censuses of all deer species present at the zoo, with some of them mounted on nocturnal animal cover to observe their behavior too.
Officials said this was the first time the whole place of the zoo was covered with a permanent CCTV camera.
“A total of 465 new cameras have been installed.
New cameras, namely HD cameras and will run 24×7, will be monitored from the center control room.
However, we still have 12 old cameras available with us, which can be installed in different locations depending on their needs, “Said a zoo official.
The newly installed camera includes 20 cameras zoom-in and has a rotational option of 360 degrees available.
An zoo officer said the control room would be manned 24×7 and if visitors tried to cross the obstacles fenced or threw items in stip down, the closest guard would soon be told to take action.
“The camera has also been installed to monitor animal health and welfare in captivity and to take action if there is a battle between two animals, or if an animal is injured,” the official said.
The zoo reopened for visitors from August 1 and so on and has been running in two shifts of each four hours.
Before the last lock, the zoo has added a number of new species of birds and animals, taking the total species that are calculated from 83 to 88.
Nowadays more than 90 species.
