Jaipur: Rajasthan Mandatory Registration of Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021 passed in assembly recently trapped in Raj Bhavan because of controversy.
According to sources, “The governor is studying the bill after the objection raised by not only opposition but by activists and constitutional bodies.” BJP MLA has filed a petition to the governor with bills, which they claim will promote a child’s marriage.
BJP has accused that child marriage will be encouraged if this bill becomes a law.
This bill provides compulsory marriage registration including underage marriage, which is rampant in the state.
The BJP MLAS delegation also complained to the governor in the past when MLA Sanyam Lodha supported by Congress had also raised his voice on this bill during the debate.
Because of the controversy, it was believed that Raj Bhavan had not forwarded it so far and wanted to be satisfied about it first.
The National Commission for Protection of Children’s Rights also objected to this amendment.
Governor Kalaraj Mishra hasn’t commented on this bill waiting at Raj Bhavan.
However, the government has announced that marriage registration does not make it legal and amendments to be taken towards the Supreme Court.
