Mumbai: In an effort to make vaccines more accessible, BMC plans to start a night vaccination drive in a certain area in the next few days.
There was also a plan to start a campaign ‘my office, a safe room to target workplaces to drive 100% vaccination among their staff.
BMC officials believe the drive will help increase the second vaccination rate.
At present, 105% of the 92.3 lakh mature population has taken the first vaccine while only 79% are fully vaccinated.
On Saturday, 83,657 people took Covid vaccines throughout the city.
“During the Pollio Drive pulses, our health service workers will run with vaccines until late at night to vaccinate children who cannot go to Pulse Sunday polio centers.
We tried a similar method to push the Covid vaccination number,” said BMC executive health worker Dr.
Mangala Gomare.
The idea is to reach the people, especially the floating population, who cannot take a break from their work to get themselves vaccinated, he added.
At present, most Covid-19 vaccination centers operate between 9am and 5pm, but BMC officials are exercising by stretching this trip until 10pm.
“The decision has been taken to start a night vaccination journey, but it will take several days to perfect the plan and start,” said Dr.
Gomare.
A few months ago when the daily vaccination number began to fall during the Navratri and Diwali festival, BMC began a cellular vaccination center operating near the residential area.
Vaccination was taken in the last 10 days, since the news of the Omicron variant emerged from South Africa.
The BMC health department has also written to health care companies to fully vaccinate their health workers.
“We have also written to non-health care companies to ensure that their staff are vaccinated,” said Dr.
Gomare.
This was done as part of a new campaign called ‘my office, a safe room’ on the line ‘of my family, my campaign of my last year’s responsibility.
BMC will also start a travel awareness where cellular vans are equipped with Mikes will provide information regarding vaccines.
