Kalyan: The presence of the first Omicron variant of Covid-19 in Maharashtra has been confirmed in a 33-year-old man in Dombivli District in the Thane District.
He came from Capetown in South Africa through Dubai and Delhi on November 24.
Patient sample laboratory investigation confirmed the existence of a virus.
Patients, who are in observations in the center of quarantine, stable and asymptomatic.
The passenger was tested Covid-19 positive on arrival at the airport on November 24.
He was a lightweight fever once he got home.
After consulting a doctor, he qualified himself.
The Ministry of Health came to find out about patient infections after his brother approached a private laboratory for Covid-19 tests.
When laboratory staff learned that he had returned from South Africa, he immediately received information to the Kalyan-Dombivli Health Ministry of Municipal Corporation.
Health officials quickly traced the patient and shifted it to the Quarantine Center run by KDMC.
They sent a sample for the genome sequencing for omicron variants at the Kasturba hospital in Mumbai.
The Ministry of Health then traces 12 high-risk contacts of passengers and 23 low-risk contacts.
All have negative etsted for Covid-19.
In addition, 25 of the co-passengers from Delhi-Mumbai flights have also been tested negatively.
Commissioner KDMC Dr.
Vijay Suryawanshi said: “The patient is really stable.
We have conducted a Covid test of all contacts that are close and at risk of low patients.
All, including co-passengers have been tested negatively.” Dr.
Suryawanshi also urged citizens not to panic and ask them to take security measures, including keeping social and wearing facial masks.
