Paris: Residents and tourists in Paris will be asked to wear face masks outside the house starting Friday because France sees a surge in Covid-19 infection triggered by the Omicron variant.
Paris Police Prefecture said the mask rule would apply to people aged 12 years and over, although individuals will except when riding a bicycle or motorcycle, traveling by vehicle and doing exercises.
Those who did not comply with a fine of 135 euros ($ 153).
Masks have been mandatory in shops, public facilities and office buildings and public transportation in France.
The French government announced the steps to fight the spread of Coronavirus this week, when France reported a record daily 208,000 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday.
