Letter: Adjusting a Type Record, New Civil Hospital Microbiology Laboratory (NCH) conducts more than 10 Lakh RT-PCR tests for three consecutive waves of Covid-19.
Although each wave lasts for about a month, the test continues and becomes the most challenging task in the current wave, given the spread of rapid infection.
A total of 1.6 lakh RT-PCR conducted during January when the Covid-19 case was at the top.
At the average, 7,000 tests are carried out every day by team 106 technicians and support staff.
“If we remember the last two years, it cannot be trusted that we have done more than 10 lakh cases since March 2020.” In the days the team works 24 hours because the results are important to be delivered in a short time to isolate patients infected with Covid-19, “said Dr.
Summaiya Mullan, Head of the Microbiology Department.
Many department staff infected with Covid-19 during their duty and immediately rejoined after Recovery.
“I lost my father because Covid was during the second wave and I was afraid of infection.
“My two children were also infected but in the end, I was forced to gather my courage and continue to work, even overtime, because our services needed,” said Assistant Professor, Dr.
Dimle Jethwa Chauuhan.
Likewise, Dr.
Purvi Modi, a tutor, infected in the first and third wave.
“My two sons are also infected but every time I start working immediately after recovery,” he added.
Because of the high number of samples for three days during the third wave peak, some results were delayed.
“Because of the lack of staff and equipment there are problems for two to three days but resolved immediately and everything moves smoothly,” said an official.
