Colombo: The ban between the Sri Lankan province, which was put in place in May because the third wave of Pandemic Covid-19, ended on Sunday despite the warning from medical professionals.
The prohibition of travel continued even though the government ended the quarantine curfew on October 1, which was continuously valid since August 20.
The minister of public transportation Dilum Amunugama said that transportation services will operate from Monday.
Appointment of travel prohibitions came when the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) warned of possible new waves with relaxed restrictions.
In a letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, SLMA said it was more important than before before the right steps were taken at this time.
It recommends monitoring close because health guidelines are not implemented and the general public continues to ignore them.
They recommend the third dose or booster of PFIZER vaccines for priority groups such as the elderly and frontline health workers.
SLMA quoted a recent study that showed that seven percent of the elderly population, which has been given with a Chinese synopharm vaccine, has not developed an adequate immune level of viruses.
With the increasing public movement, SLMA said that the risk of parents who get viruses has increased and they are more vulnerable than other groups for severe conditions and death.
The Ministry of Health’s epidemiology unit said that on Saturday, more than 15.4 million of the 21 million island populations had received at least one dose.
Also, 13.4 million has received both Jab.
Sri Lanka deaths since the plague in March 2020 stood nearly 13,800 with more than 540,000 infections.
