Athens: Most Turkish-flagged cargo ships carry 382 Afghan migrants arrived safely at the Port of the Greek Island early on Sundays, two days after losing power in the Aegean Sea and sending signals of distress.
Six among what the country’s single largest migrant flow in the country was arrested after the ship, Murat 729, was pulled into the port of boarding by Greek coast guard, the Migration Ministry said.
Another arrival was brought to the reception center on the island.
They live in the middle, where they will be processed and quarantined, will temporarily, the ministry said.
Greece has become the main route to the European Union for asylum seekers arriving from Turkey.
The number of arrivals has fallen sharply since 2016 after the EU and Ankara agreed to an agreement to stop migrants from the intersection to Greece.
Since the takeover of the Afghan Taliban in August, however, many EU countries were afraid of the 2015 refugee crisis replay, when nearly 1 million people, especially Syrian refugees, arrived at the EU after crossing to the Greek Islands close to Turkey.
On Friday, the Greek delivery ministry has asked Turkey to accept the return of a sick ship.
On Tuesday, four migrants, three of them were children, sank after the boat where they were and 23 others tried to cross from Turkey to Greece.
