Geneva: Preliminary evidence shows that the Covid-19 vaccine may be less effective against infections and transmissions related to the omicron coronavirus variant, which also carries a higher risk of return, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday.
WHO, in its weekly epidemiological update, said that more data is needed to better understand the extent to which Omicron can avoid immunity from the vaccine or previous infection.
“As a result of this, the overall risk is related to the new variant of Omicron’s concern remains very high,” he said.
