New Delhi: IRDAI Insurance Regulator on Monday said the health insurance policy that included Covid maintenance costs would also cover costs for treating infections because Omicron.
“All health insurance policies issued by all general and health insurance companies that include Covid-19 maintenance costs also include medical expenses for the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in accordance with the terms and conditions of policy contracts,” India’s Insurance and Development Development Authority (IRDAI) said in the release.
The regulator has issued directives to general and health insurance companies considering the increasing number of omicron variants.
Regulators have also requested insurance companies to implement effective coordination mechanisms with all network providers and their hospitals to provide non-cash facilities available to all policy holders if they occur inpatient and provide fast service to all policyholders.
In April 2020, Irdai had clarified that all health insurance products were compensation which included the cost of hospitalization offered by all general and health insurance companies covering the cost of hospitalization due to Covid-19.
A total of 1,700 cases of omicron coronavirus variants have been detected in 23 states and the United States so far, where 639 has recovered or migrated, according to UNI Ministry of Health data updated on Monday.
Maharashtra has recorded a maximum number of 510 cases, followed by Delhi (351), Kerala (156), Gujarat (136), Tamil Nadu (120) and Rajasthan (120).
Covid Counting India rose to 3.49.22,882 with 33,750 new cases, according to data that was updated at 8am.
The death toll rises to 4,81,893 with 123 fatalities, data shows.
Active cases increased to 1,45,582 consisting of 0.42 percent of the total infection, while the national recovery rate of Covid-19 was recorded at 98.20 percent, the Ministry of Health said.
