Kolkata: The increase in Covid cases caused a sudden and sharp decrease in the opposite restaurant and bar kolkata on New Year’s Eve.
Until last week, they were expected to get many people.
After the encouragement from the state, the association of hotels and restaurants in India asked all members of members to cancel or delay their new year’s events to avoid crowding and strictly followed a 70% cap on seating capacity.
The presence fell by almost 70% in most restaurants.
Hub Party Kolkata – Park Street – who had pulsed with people in revelers until Thursday, saw the thinning of the crowd on Friday night and a very restrained celebration.
“We have written to each member, asking them to cancel or delay their new year’s events.
Those who cannot be asked to reduce the event and prevent crowding at any cost.
We have also explained that 70% ribbon in capacity must be obeyed by Strict, “said President Hraei Sudesh Poddar.
The footsteps drop to only 30% of the capacity in Songhai, Manthan and MS Bar, owned by Poddar.
Serpentine queues in front of Park Street Restaurant disappeared or shortened significantly on Friday.
“While our restaurant is still full, the crowd is waiting to thin out.
Given the scenario, this might be expected,” said Nitin Kothari, the owner of Mocambo and Peter Cat.
The presence dropped in Oudh and Chapter 2 too.
“The presence is low and expected.
We have strengthened our Covid norms and plan to return to wearware,” said the owner of Shiladitya Chaudhury.
Some, however, feel a thinner crowd and the fact that Park Street remains open to cars causing a much more disciplined celebration, which has never been seen on New Year’s Eve.
“It allows more families to come because they feel safe without the crowd.
It’s very crowded and a different celebration, but it’s more fun,” said Pratap Daryanani, Oasis owner.
“Our footsteps saw a sudden decline on Friday, but we did not mind because the Covid case increased and more restrictions would likely be applied next week,” said Park Street Restaurant owner.
“A set of restrictions may be applied in which we must maintain the time frame to run our business.
But if some rules are needed to prevent something severe, we will support it,” said Aarunima Dhawan, owner of Hola in South Kolkata.
