Vadodara: Digital transactions see Jump Manifold last year due to Covid-19 pandemic which forces people to use online services.
But the increase in digital traffic also attracts cyber fraud, which sees it as an opportunity to deceive non-suspicion users.
Reports on crimes in India released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on Wednesday revealed that in 2020 cyberspace crimes increased 64% in Gujarat compared to the previous year.
According to the NCRB report, 784 Cybercrime violations were registered in 2019 and the number jumped up to 1283 in 2020.
In 2018, 702 violations of virtual world crime were registered in the state.
Of the 1,283 cyber crime registered in 2020, 875 fraud.
“Before the pandemic, digital transactions were not too popular.
But Covid encouraged people to make payments without contact and many started making an online order to avoid the way out of their home.
The volume of digital transactions provides an opportunity for cyber fraud,” Jaydeepsinh Jadeja said, DCP (Crime).
“The Conmen began to deceive new people with a digital payment method and therefore violations of cyber fraud rose in 2020.
Digital transactions are fully safe if people follow the guidelines and do not fall in love with fraud calls,” Jadeja Toi said.
Some cases of the most common cyber fraud are unknown people make fake social media profiles from some prominent people and make money from their online friends.
Also, many are cheated by cyber fraud posing as defense personnel who are looking for rental accommodation and money online.
“The Cybercrime case has increased because people have taken digital monetary transactions and the internet also becomes cheaper.
We educate people about precautions they must take while conducting digital transactions through social media and conscious programs,” said Dr.
Sudhir Desai, police supervisor Vadodara countryside.
He added that the victims now immediately approached the police because they could prevent transferring money in a fraudster bank account or reverse the transaction.
