Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada on Saturday reported five cases of a variant of Covid Omicron-19.
Cases omicron variant of the virus were reported from samples collected from two clusters in the district on December 10.
While one cluster with 16 cases reported in Covid 19 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in the district, The other is a cluster with 19 cases of SARS-CoV-2 are found in private nursing college on the outskirts of Mangaluru.
In fact, 16 cases were reported at the 19th Covid JNV in the last week of November.
Meanwhile, another cluster with 19 cases was found on December 9.
Reports genome sequencing to samples from two clusters that are sent on December 10, tested positive for Omicron on Saturday, said the DC.
“Today we received reports of four positive cases of variant Omicron of JNV and one of the colleges of nursing private.
Health officials have visited educational institutions on Saturday and found all the students who are healthy and everything is negative for Covid-19 now.
Appropriate contact search the beginning, the Ministry of Health found no history of traveling abroad in one case, “said the DC.
Dr Ashok H, District Nodal Officer for Covid-19, said that samples from the two clusters was sent to sequencing the genome in the directives of the state government.
“None of the students who are symptomatic and they are healthy.
They do not have a history of travel to foreign countries or neighboring Kerala.
Both their parents had visited Kerala as well as foreign countries.
In fact, the Minister of Health Dr K Sudhakar has tweet stating detection of five omicron variant of the virus from Dakshina Kannada students.
the minister also mentioned in his tweet that a traveler from the UK also tested positive for Omicron, but DC confirmed that travelers from the UK instead of Dakshina Kannada.
