New Delhi: In large assistance for locals, two underpasses will appear in the Outer Ring Road in North Delhi at the end of March, said Public Department officials on Saturday.
Both underpasses between Gopalpur traffic signals and the Jagatpur bridge will save almost three kilometers of travel to residents of Mukherjee Nagar, Gandhi Vihar, Jagatpur and Sangam Vihar village.
This proposal was first approved in 2017 by Uttipec and also included a subway near Gandhi Vihar at Outer Ring Road.
“Casting the segment is complete and the excavation work for the vehicle underpass path is ongoing.
We plan to complete the project at the end of March,” said PWD official oversee the project.
In accordance with Plan Master Delhi 2021, the signal-free corridor must be built between Vikaspuri and Wazirabad on the outer ring road with the elimination of four traffic signals in Bhalswa, Mukundpur, Burari and Gopalpur and creation of the flyover.
But the traffic signal in Gopalpur was lowered without giving alternative arrangements because locals were left across 3 km to cross the busy outer ring road.
According to PWD, some representations are accepted from the local community and the association of resident welfare with optional arrangements to cross the outer ring road after the removal of traffic signals produces additional mileage for people.
Also, a large number of students are road users who are close to Mukherjee Nagar, education center.
There is also a request for pedestrian bridges.
However, PWD chose the subway.
In 2016, PWD proposed a subway and two vehicle underpasses mainly for two-wheeled and cyclists.
Both of these underpasses will be partially above and below the existing road surface because of the nearby drain.
PWD also built a path in this underpass for a safe trip from residents who want to cross the outer ring road.
