New Delhi: Chairman of the Minister of Arvind Kejriwal establishes from the first electric bus in the city Monday.
It also became the first new bus added to the Delhi Transport Corporation fleet in more than a decade.
The city is expected to get 50 e-buses again next month and a total of 300 in April.
“The country’s first electric bus marked the beginning of the new era in the transportation sector Delhi,” Kejriwal said, after marking the bus from DTC’s Indraprastha Depot.
“This is a very important step in fighting pollution problems.
This is a zero-emission bus and barely makes noise.” CM adds that every time the older bus is deleted now, they will be replaced with an electric bus.
CM also describes the addition of the first new bus at the DTC fleet since 2011 as a “extraordinary achievement”.
He said that such achievements were considered jinxed but the Delhi government had overcome it.
“We have welcomed this bus to DTC happily.
We also held Havan,” Kejriwal said.
He said that in April, there will be 300 electric buses running on Jalan Delhi and the purpose of the state government is to get 2,000 e-buses in the coming years.
He said that the bus will be charged in one and a half hours and can run as far as 120 km per cost.
All DTC depots get charging points.
Kejriwal then tweeted, “The first electric bus has started running on the streets of Delhi starting today.
300 electric buses will soon be added to the DTC fleet.

“The new bus is 100% electricity with zero tailpipe emissions.
From the 300 E-bus fleet, 100 will operate from depots in Mundela Kalan, 50 buses from Rajghat and 150 buses from the depot developed in Sector 37, Rohini.
Buses in the Delhi public transport fleet, including a scructer vehicle, now number 6,900.
People can plan a trip or track the bus on Google Maps.
Commuter can order bus tickets on Delhi’s Delhi mobile application, the government said in a statement.
