New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday announced that the Delhi government would introduce a “very progressive policy” for street vendors in the city to end all extortion and corruption.
“The Delhi government is working on a very progressive policy to overcome the situation and stop this daily extortion by city and police corporations,” Party claims MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj.
“All street vendors are identified through the seller’s committee.
The work is being carried out to estimate the number and type of vendors throughout Delhi, and kiosk fees,” he said.
The government is looking for an ideal location so that vendors can continue their business without disturbing the traffic movements or paths, or penetrating anyone’s properties, MLA said.
“This will benefit vendors and customers.” Under new policies, the police will activate street vendors to do business without interruption, Bharadwaj shows.
AAP will ensure street vendors are not squeezed, he said.
The city seller’s committee will survey and identify street vendors on December 7 and all vendors can register for themselves.
On September 30, 23,951 street vendors were identified by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, 27,819 by North Corporation and 19,577 by the East Corporation.
AAP officials said the community needed street vendors, both for fruits / vegetables, laundry and ironing services, and so on, while vendors also rely on customers for their livelihoods.
If they are not placed in the ideal location, it caused problems in the movement, he admitted, adding that there was an urgent need to find balance.
The deadline for the survey by the Delhi City City Sales Committee has been extended from September 30 to December 7 to enter vendors coming home because Covid-19 and have returned now.
“After surveying and registering all vendors, the election will be carried out between them and the seller’s committee will be arranged throughout Delhi.
After this, the procedure to allocate the zone to the street vendor will begin,” Bharadwaj said.
Delhi spokesman BJP Praveoor Shankar Kapoor claimed AAP’s concern for street vendors motivated politically.
“In the past five years, the AAP government expands not to help in establishing a Vendor Street Committee.
Now when civil elections are less than six months away, the party is a floating scheme,” Kapoor said, adding that the company had identified street vendors and issuing certificates.
