Hyderabad: Ecological misery from Lake HussainSagar does not seem to end.
Adding a number of environmental issues is the latest developments from ‘Delta inland’ at one of the pure corners of the lake.
This interior delta is the result of the formation of waste and the growth of algae, the more polluting the body of the water.
Satellite images of Lake Hussainsagar by the World Resources Institute (WRI), India, show that in the last 10 days it has become a green accumulation due to algae growth.
The picture also reveals black waste flowing into the water body.
Delta inland has been created because of the presence of pollutants.
The picture was taken on January 3 around midnight.
P Raj Bhagat, Senior Manager, WRI-India, Bengaluru, Tweet on January 10 that “Satellite Imagic from Hyderabad from last week showed green algae filled with contaminated HussainSagar lakes and black waste flowed into it and created a Delta inland like entering the lake” .
Bhagat told the Toi that he had studied the water body including those in Hyderabad for the past 10 years.
He said he had noticed the high level of pollution in most lakes in the city through satellite imagery.
Asked how the level of pollution in Lake HussainSagar has changed in the last week or two weeks, he said the weekly comparison was not possible because satellite images were influenced by many parameters.
“It depends on how much cloud cover is above the city for satellites to observe,” he added that pollution on Lake Hyderabad had increased.
WRI-India has worked closely with the Metropolitan Development Authority Hyderabad (HMDA) in cleaning the lake HussainSagar.
It has prepared a solid waste cleaning system fully floating in the Nala picket, one of the lake entrance channels.
According to WRI documents in Lake Hussainsagar, the waste material that enters the water body affects biodiversity, especially water life.
Fauna poultry that depends on the body of water for food is also beaten badly.
Over the years Lake Hussainsagar has lost its ability to rejuvenate with many pollutants who bombard the body of water.
The waters are contaminated by chemical, pharmaceutical, city and industrial pollutants.
Several studies of research conducted previously revealed that Lake Hussainsagar practically died and the Swedish Research Agency had stepped as far as the remaining pharmaceutical residue from the waters of the lake and produced pills.
Pharmaceutical residues include drugs intended for cancer treatment, mental disorders, and infectious diseases.
Last year, the genetic material of the coronavirus novel was extracted from the Hussainsagar lake which showed a pandemic virus in the water body.
