PANAJI: State Epidemiologist Dr.
Utkarsh Betodkar said on Tuesday that the Delta variant was still common in the state.
The 64 sample report was sent for the sequencing of the genome two months ago which was recently accepted indicating that 12 was the Delta variant and 52 were sub-lineages.
“Because delta mutations are still in the community, we cannot rule out the possibility of clusters and places,” he said.
“This might happen if we drop our guards.
We must continue to follow the appropriate Covid-19 behavior,” he told TI.
The coverage of state vaccination is very good, so even if there is an outbreak, it is possible that critical cases and hospital admissions may be lacking, he said, appealing to people to be fully vaccinated in mega vaccination drives on Sunday at 200+ centers.
“Most of the deaths that occurred during October were among those who were not vaccinated,” he said.
Toi reported on Tuesday that 92% of those who died in the second wave to Covid-19 did not receive a single dose of vaccines.
This country only reported one case of Delta-Plus variant to date, while the Delta variant contributed 60% (271 cases) of 452 samples received from the genomic sequencing lab.
There are 362 pending reports.
The country sends samples every 15 days to the national center for cell science, Pune.
“Samples are sent from all categories – vaccinated patients, not vaccinated, critical, those who expire, as well as random samples,” Betodkar said.
