Rajkot: Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Friday destroys 10 housing and as many commercial units as possible in stretching between universities and Raiya Road.
Removal of encroachment opens an area of 521 square meters.
According to RMC, demolition is done with a specialized drive planned at Ward 9 to eliminate encroachment and expand the newly developed roads.
The TP (City Planning) scheme was proposed in 2018 but was approved on August 202.
Officials under police protection destroyed housing and commercial structures declared illegally.
In a statement, RMC said that it issued a notification to occupants in buildings on October 5 last year and after that issued a reminder several times.
For the past 10 days, RMC staff have asked residents to leave the place and allow demolition.
Most people have eliminated their valuables.
Residents of the building over the past few decades now demand alternative land.
