Vadodara: As if a lot of holes in the city road are not dangerous enough, driving more dangerous for Barodian.
Thanks to speed breakers taken carelessly on the main road and arterial routes by Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), commuters are undergoing a back-breaking experience over the past few years.
In such a way that the problem of the threat of speed breakers was even discussed at the meeting of the road safety council that was recently held in the city.
The authorities have now decided to stand a speed bumps on the main road.
“Speed Breakers are an important element in road safety and therefore the problem is discussed during the meeting.
It has been decided to maintain speed breakers with the same size and form according to the norm,” Shamsher Singh, Commissioner of the City Police.
A committee consisting of police and VMC officials has also been formed because of making decisions in places where speed breakers must be done.
“The breaker speed must be made according to the Norm of the Indian Road Congress (IRC) but unfortunately it is rarely followed.
Most speed breakers are carried out in anywhere where accidents are reported.
But only making speed breakers cannot reduce accidents,” Satyen Kulabker said, traffic experts and members of the road safety board.
“Speed breakers are not made according to the norm too.
While some are very high so they can damage the vehicle, some can even cause spinal cord injury about commuters.
Some are very low so they hardly reduce the speed of the vehicle,” said Kulabker Toi.
He added that many speed breakers were not even painted regularly.
“Many accidents occur when people fail to see speed breakers in the dark and slip on the road when they use brakes suddenly.
Also, if people also follow basic traffic rules, we will not need so many speed breakers in the city,” said Kulabker.
A traffic department official said that it was a VMC job to decide spots where Speed Bumps must be made and maintain the size and form of standard.
“VMC has an expert engineer on the subject.
But the Civic’s body transfers the part of the responsibility to the traffic department and continues the speed breaking application that reaches us.
The traffic department can provide data related to accidents but we do not have the expertise on this problem,” said The official.
The official VMC said that local residents were usually pressing to make their speed breakers.
“If the area witnessed several accidents, local residents immediately demanded speed breakers there.
Even politicians put pressure and therefore we have to make speed breakers in some areas even if the norm does not allow it.”
