VADODARA: An engineering student has developed an Internet of Things (IoT)-based health monitoring system that can sense your body temperature, blood pressure and ECG.
If your vitals drastically increase or decrease above or below the threshold value, the smart device will alert your doctor.
If your doctor does not respond to the health emergency, the device will automatically alert any nearby doctors or hospitals.
Abhishek Sharma, a final year student of Parul University’s Department of Electronic and Communication Engineering, developed the health monitoring system — named Gauging thong — under guidance of Anuradha Garde and Roma Patel, assistant professors at the Parul Institute of Engineering and Technology.
“The purpose of this project is to autonomously monitor the health of patients,” said Sharma, a native of Jhansi.
“Upon sensing parameters like body temperatures, blood pressure and ECG, the collected data gets reflected on a mobile application.
The sensed body temperature, blood pressure and ECG value will be displayed in the form of graphs and digitally on the mobile app.
The user can monitor it using the application,” he said.
“The smart monitoring device is developed with the help of arduino uno, which is an open-source microcontroller board, pulse sensor, temperature sensor, ECG sensor, Wi-Fi module, GSM module and batteries that are mounted on it,” he said, adding that the project intends to decrease death rate that occur due to heart attack or heart-related issues.
“Currently, I have developed the prototype model by spending just Rs 2,000.
We can make the device affordable and available to a larger population,” he said.
