Mangaluru: In setbacks to several organizations, individuals and political parties who hit the name of the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), the Government Government has stated that it has not received proposals from the state government.
A question was submitted by a member of BJP Rajya Sabha Subramanian Swamy, asking if there was a proposal to change the name MIA.
He asked the United States that how many suggestions had been received on new names, and what actions had taken the government to change the airport name? However, the Minister of State for the Civil Aviation Gen (Pensionance) V K Singh answered negatively.
In the answer to Swamy’s query, Singh said on Monday, that the proposal to rename the airport was considered based on the recommendation of the state government in question, accompanied by a resolution that was passed by the state legislature.
However, there was no proposal to change the name MIA not yet received from the Government of Karnataka.
The decision about the replacement of the airport name was taken by the Union Cabinet, after the maturity of consultation with the central ministry or department concerned.
There are several names suggested by various organizations and associations.
They include local Demigod Koti-Chennayya, Freedom Fighter, Rani Abbakka, U Mallya, a politician who is considered Doyen from Mangaluru Modern, Defense Minister George Fernandes, Jnanpith Awardee Shivaram Kananth, and others.
A few months ago, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had immediately stated that a decision to change the name MIA after Koti-Chennaya will be taken, and a proposal has been submitted to the same thing.
The necessary steps will be taken to send a proposal to the center through the state government to change the name Mia, he said.
The President of the Youth Congress of Dakshina Kannada Mithun Rai, who has started the online campaign, demanded the replacement of Mia’s name after Koti-Chennaya, said MP had deceived people from coastal districts with a fake guarantee.
“He (MP) said the proposal was sent to rename MIA to stop our fight on the same thing.
However, the query in Rajya Sabha has revealed that no proposal was submitted to change the name Mia, so far,” said Mithun.
BJP State spokesman and former MLC captain Ganesh Karnik stated that there was a request submitted by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel for a long time.
“There are too many suggested names, and the replacement of the airport is sensitive to social, and the center will consider it, but it might take time,” he said.
