Mangaluru: Based on the direction of the Prison Department and Correctional Services, District Prison in Mangaluru has appointed a full-time counselor to deal with psychological problems inmates.
A senior officer said in many cases accused of alcoholics, and immediately after being treated in prison, they often suffer from withdrawal symptoms.
“Many also suffer from behavioral problems, and therefore were referred to counselors.
The appointment of full-time counselors is very much needed, because they can be immediately referred to experts, if there are behavioral problems,” he added.
Prison Supervisor BT Obaleshappa told TII, “A full-time counselor was appointed about 10 days ago.

The counselors help cleanse doubts and mental disorders passed by prisoners.

The counselor also reaches those who have been in prison for a long time and need help, “he said.
The total number of prisoners in prison is 333, including six women, as on Sundays.
Out of prisoners, almost 70 of them were accused of various cases of Pocso.
