Chennai: The powerful DMK and its allies arranged to sweep a rural local body poll held in nine districts being reorganized in Tamil Nadu.
They also lead at Bypolls to 789 empty seats in 28 other districts.
At 2pm, Tuesday, the DMK party led in 74 Panchayat Ward regencies of a total of 140 in nine districts while the allied congress took the lead in four seats.
The main opposition AIADMK and BJP lead in one Panchayat Ward respectively.
DMK also led in more than 100 Panchayat Union Ward from a total of 1,381 in nine districts while MDMK’s allies on two Panchayat Union and Congress and VCK wards led each Panthayat Union.
AIADMK took the lead in 18 Panchayat Union wards, PMK in seven, AMMK in two and independent candidates in five years.
If the current trend continues, DMK and its allies will collect more than 75% of Panchayat Wards and Panchayat Union Wards.
The DMK Alliance can end up winning more than 110 of the 140 Panchayat district wards and more than 1,000 of 1,381 Pancrayat Union Wards.
The DMK alliance also leads in the majority of local objects that go to Bypolls.
