Rajkot: A doctor based in Bhavnagar tries to treat plastic pollution with a dose of antidote – one cotton bag for every 50 plastic bags less than 50 microns! With the help of 200 Scout Guide students who are part of Shishu Vihar’s voluntary organization, Dr.
Tejas Doshi, a general practitioner has, so far, distributes 30,000 cotton bags and collects 15 plastic bags of a dangerous type of environment, and deposits this to the department of the corporate solid waste City for the right scientific disposal.
Dr.
Joshi began this initiative in 2019 to merege people about plastic losses and notify them of pleasant and sustainable cotton bags.
However, because of Covid’s induced locking, his activities remained suspended for 2020.
He has now once again, since the last few months, restarted his activities and created several centers while he collected a plastic bag once a week.
Students collect plastic bags and distribute cotton bags in these collection centers and also on traffic signals.
When distributing cotton bags, students also ask people to avoid using plastic bags.
“We cannot remove plastic from our lives, but we can do to minimize their use,” said Dr.
Doshi Toi.
He said the bag was sewn from waste cloth and the cost around Rs 7 which he got a sponsor.
“There is provision of other shops or stores who want to distribute cotton bags for their advertisements and they contact us.
Three people sponsor these bags on their birthdays, while one pair sponsors a cotton bag on their wedding anniversary,” he added.
