Thiruvananthapuram: Save the Education Campaign Committee urged the Minister of Higher Education R Bindu not blindly following the path taken by his predecessor, KT Jalael, who tried to ‘run power outside his authority’.
The Committee leaders reacted to the statement of the minister that those who did not know about Pro-Chancellor’s strength were finding a mistake with him for making recommendations to Chancellor regarding the appointment of the Chancellor of the University of Kannur.
“The Minister must spend time and understand university law.
Universities are not part of the government.
They are fully autonomous institutions.
The minister or government does not have the authority to suggest or recommend the names to the university’s top post to Chancellor.
Pro-Chancellor’s is a post ornament authority , “Committee said.
The Chairman of the R committee Sasikumar stressed that the Minister has violated the rules by writing a letter to Chancellor regarding the appointment of the representative of the university chancellor.
There was no other minister in the history of Kerala which was ever done in the past, he added.
