Cuttack: Orissa Head of the High Court Muralidhar has asked a lawyer to refrain from the use of terms like ‘My Lord’ or ‘Your Mour’ while handling it.
“All advice advisors and parties are directly asked to try and avoid overcoming these bench judges as my Lord, Your Majesty, His Majesty or with Hon’ble Prefix.
Other address forms, consistent with the court decorum, including sir, must be sufficient, “Said a record attached to the case list for Monday to hear by the main justice bench.
Secretary of the Orissa High Court Bar Association J K Lenka said that other judges had to follow the suit.
“This is a welcome step.
Other judges, advocates and experts must follow.
Mr.
both respects,” Lenka said.
In the 1970s, the Orissa High Court had initiated a displacement to overcome judges as ‘Mr.’ even though the practice of using the term as ‘Your Lord’ to overcome them has continued until now.
Senior Advocate Buddhadev Roulay said, “In fact, the full bench from the Orissa High Court with Justice Gatikrushna Mishra as head of Justice (1969-75) has given an order to overcome judges as sir.
Moving by chairman Justice is now a step in that direction.” Former Chairperson of the Odisha Council of the State of Odisha and Senior Advocate Manas Ranjan Mohaparna said, “In 2006, the Indian Bar Board (BCI) had adopted a resolution to get rid of judges as my lord …
who felt it was a colonial past heritage.” In the year 2009, Muralidhar’s justice has asked a lawyer in the Delhi High Court not to overcome it as ‘Your Your’.
In 2020, justice Muralidhar asked a lawyer in the Punjab High Court and Haryana to avoid the same provisions while overcoming them.
Justice Muralidhar was a judge in the Delhi High Court from May 29, 2006, until March 5, 2020, and the Punjab High Court and Haryana from March 6, 2020, until January 3 last year.
He was appointed as Chair of the Orissa High Court on January 4 last year.
