Madurai: Dravidar Member Kazhagam held a protest in Madurai on Saturday condemning Hindu Mahasabha members who paid tribute to Assassin Mahatma Gandhi Godse Nathuram at Madhya Pradesh on January 31.
The protest held in Madurai was part of the state protest in Tamil Nadu.
On January 31, on the 74th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Hindu Mahasabha paid tribute to Godse Nathuram, who was responsible for Gandhi’s murder and other defendants involved in the murder, Narayan Apte, in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.
Hindu Mahasabha observed the day as ‘Godse-Apte Smriti Diawas’ and was also reportedly awarded ‘Godse-Apte Bharat Ratna’ to KaliCharan Maharaj.
KaliCharan Maharaj and four Mahasabha leaders were arrested in December last year for making an insulting statement against Mahatma Gandhi during a Dharma Sansad held at Raipur, Chattisgarh.
On Saturday, Draavidar Kazhagam members held a protest near the crossing of Crime Branch in Madurai, condemning Hindu Mahasabha’s activities on January 31.
“God’s celebration like that, which is the murderer of Mahatma Gandhi, by an organization is very punished..
Furthermore, it was a disrespect for Mahatma Gandhi, especially on the day of his death.
By using the name ‘Bharat Ratna’ and the gift was rude to the nation.
However, the Madhya Pradesh government and the police have not taken action against Hindu Mahasabha.
So we held this protest, “said Muruganantham, Secretary, Madurai City, Dravidar Kazhagam.
