Dubai: Dubai Authority is a Thursday that investigates the explosion on a container ship carrying flammable material, which releases fireballs in one of the busiest ports in the world and sends shock waves through the city.
Firefighters rushed to the scene at Port Jebel Ali to handle the broken flames on a large ship stacked with a container who according to the authorities had prepared to anchor.
The fire and smoke flowed from the ship but the authorities said it was watered in 40 minutes and there were no casualties, with all 14 crew members evacuated in time before the explosion.
“Alhamdulillah everything is safe.
But this is a natural accident that occurs in one of the containers, which also brings some flammable material.
There is no other reason,” Mona Al Marri, director of the Dubai media office, told Al -abiya television.
He said there would be an investigation into the cause of the explosion.
Police vehicles and Thursday fire trucks are still parked close to the ship that are severely damaged, with a burning container seen on the dock.
Residents of the apartment tower and villa lining the city beach reported heard hard at night and then felt the window and door vibrating after the fireball shot into the sky, with a few shooting spectacles from their balcony.
AFP correspondent at the scene saw a helicopter around the overhead when the smoke column rose from a safe facility after the explosion.
Dubai police said three out of 130 containers on the ship held flammable materials.
“The initial report shows that …
friction, or heat, may have caused an explosion”, Police Chief Dubai Abdullah Al-Marri told Al-Arabiya, adding that there were no radioactive substances or explosives in the container.
Such events rarely occur in the emirate of a very safe bay, one in seven which formed the rich United Arab Emirates.
The fire and smoke were poured from the ship but were watered in 40 minutes and there were no casualties, with 14 crew members evacuated on time before the explosion.
(Reuters) Port Jebel Ali is able to handle the aircraft carrier and is a remote port of US Navy who is busied outside the United States in 2017, according to the US Congressional Research Service.
GLOBAL LOGISTICS Giant DP World Tweeted that “the operation went smoothly” across the port, thanked the local authorities for “their rapid response to resolving the fire incident”.
“I was outside on my balcony.
My friend saw something yellow came (like) the sun.
I took pictures and after (there) sound,” Clemence Lefaiix said, who lived near the explosion site and posted a bright orange light photo against the sky night in front of the apartment building.
“I’m really scared.” The resident of the Marina Dubai district, close to Port Jebel Ali, told AFP that they “saw a vibrating window”.
“I have stayed here for 15 years and this is the first time I’ll see and hear this.” There are 8,000 companies based in Jebel Ali (Jafza)-free zone which contributed 23 percent of Dubai’s gross domestic product last year.
This is the largest trade zone in the Middle East.
The Emirate Gulf Glitzy from Dubai transformed itself for the last 50 years of a drappy port city to the center of travel, trade, and regional financial services.
The city state is now home to more than three million people, most foreigners, compared with only 15,000 occupants in the 1950s.
Unlike Abu Dhabi, a leading UAE member sitting on petroleum reserves, Dubai has compiled oil resources and has worked to develop the non-oil industry, becoming a service center and tourism for the region.
