de Vries, known for his work in revealing the Dutch underworld, shot and seriously injured on the road in Amsterdam, police said on Tuesday.
“Peter R.
de Vries was shot down at Lange Leidsedwarsstraat,” said the police in a statement, referring to a road near one of the largest public boxes in the city, where he was in a television studio before.
He was taken to the nearest hospital in the “serious condition”, the police said, called on eyewitnesses to advance.
The police have been wearing an area when many people gather near the site where the scene occurred.
De Vries won an international Emmy award in the category of current affairs in 2008 for his work investigating the loss of Natale Holloway’s teenager in Aruba in 2005.
A shooter allegedly arrested shortly afterwards, the newspaper Algemeen Dagblad reported, quoted anonymous sources.
The police said they could not confirm or deny the report but they were expected to renew the public Tuesday night.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte is expected to make a statement after meeting with leading law enforcement officials after the shooting, the news agency reported.
Dutch Broadcaster RTL said De Vries had just left his studio in downtown Amsterdam and that one shot hit him on the head.
Parool Amsterdam newspaper published a picture of a scene with several people gathering around someone lying on the ground.
De Vries, is a 64-year-old celebrity in the Netherlands, as a commentator who often occurs in television crime programs and an expert crime reporter with sources in law enforcement and the underworld.
He was known for his investigation work in countless cases, especially following the 1983 beer kidnapping Freddy Heineken.
He also experienced a threat from the world under the criminal in the past with respect to several cases.
In 2013 Willem Holleeder, Heineken kidnapper, was convicted of making a threat to De Vries.
Holleeder is currently serving a life sentence because of his involvement in five murders.
In a similar case in 2019 when, Ridouan Taghi, who is currently being tried for murder and drug trafficking, taking unusual steps to make a public statement deny reports that he has threatened to kill De Vries.
De Vries have acted as an advisor, but not a lawyer, to the state witness identified as Nabil B.
Testifying in this case against Taghi and the alleged colleagues.
