Guwahati: With almost 10-lakh workers who are not strongly organized, Assam in the list of top-10 states where the highest number of ungistracious workers are registered, the center is announced on Sunday.
More than 4 unsigned workers have been registered at the E-Shram Portal, India’s first national database of unorganized workers to make government facilities easily available for them.
The Labor Minister for Labor and Work Bhupender Yadav said by registering them, unorganized workers would be able to benefit from the government scheme easily.
This exercise is the first of its kind to recognize a large number of unorganized sector workers engaged in various sectors such as construction, transportation, agriculture, clothing making, fishing, agriculture and platform work, street care, agriculture and domestic and domestic workers.
Odisha (88.35 lakh), West Bengal (80.35 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (67.02 lakh), Bihar (62.44 lakh) and Madhya Pradesh (15.79 lakh) has been able to record the highest number of registration.
But Assam, regardless of its relatively smaller population, has deactivated success in eighth position by documenting 9.95 lakh (9.95,707) workers.
Rajasthan and Punjab were in sixth and seventh with registration of 14.18 lakh and 10.33 lakh.
Assam was attended by Maharashtra (9.37 lakh) and Chattisgarh (8.24 lakh).
“After registration at the E-Shram Portal, unorganized workers will receive digital e-Shram cards and they can update their profile / details through the portal or cellular application.
They will have a universal account number (on an eshram card) that will be accepted at The whole country and will not be asked to register in a different place to obtain social security benefits, “read the release of PIB.
It adds that if a worker is registered on the e-Shram portal and meet with an accident, he will qualify for Rs 2 Lakh in the case of death or permanent disability and RS 1 lakh in the case of partial disabilities.
The main secretary to the Department of Labor Welfare, Assam, JB Ekka, said the target was to register all unorganized state workers in December.
“Agricultural workers are also under the unorganized sector, which can take their number to around 80 lakh in Assam,” he said.
