Hyderabad: ‘Elder Line’ – Helpline for senior citizens – has buzzed since it was launched in the state.
Meanwhile began operating in Telangana more than a year ago and later in several other states, ‘Elder Line’ was launched throughout India last week by the Union of the Ministry of Justice and Social Empowerment.
In Telangana, Helpline received 46,771 calls between October 2020 and September 2021.
The maximum call to Helpline comes from Hyderabad, Rangiteddy and Medchal Malkajiri, accounting 64%.
Covid related questions (47%) are at the top of the list, while many others are called to report abuse, pension issues, and requests for rescue.
However, only 1% caller dialed number for emotional support.
Men accounted for almost three quarters of calls, looking for information or assistance.
Of the nearly 3,500 calls related to Covid, the most common support is information about vaccination, facilities at vaccination centers such as wheelchairs and water, covid testing and reference to the doctor.
While some elders are trapped indoors without support asking for help for transportation, food and medicine materials.
The maximum call to report abuse was carried out between April 2021 and June 2021.
Of these, 421 was completed, while 113 was in process, officials said.
In one case, a depressed father’s call helped cure constant friction with his son.
“The Father of Wanaparthy called to complain about his son.
He said that his son did not take care of him and rude.
Our field response officer (fro) met both.
This problem was brought to the Tribunal Maintenance notification (RDO).
Both of them advise, which eventually works,” said B Shailaja, Director, Disabled Department and senior citizens.
In another case, a retired employee of Singareni from Peddapalli asked for help to regain its own acquired property from two sons.
“His son lives in his house, while he was made to live in a warehouse.
There was verbal and physical abuse too.
Come here, telling RDO.
RDO conducted an investigation and had ordered the son to empty the house and hand him over to their father,” the official said.
