Mangaluru: A mechanical engineer from Halenananki near Ramakunja in Putture, about 50 km from here, has developed smart technology for Areca agriculture.
Shivaprasad Ijjavu, 29, is growing around 4,000 Areca factories on the 13 hectare property on the hillside for the past six months and has succeeded in implementing a drip irrigation system.
Shivaprasad told TOI that maintaining Areca’s agriculture with at least 4,000 puppies needed around 5-10 workers.
“While people give up agriculture because of labor crises, I have developed low-cost technology that reduces dependence on labor and one person can manage all agriculture,” he said.
Explain how it works, he said, “For water management, we have implemented drops irrigation, which can also be used to provide fertilizer.
I know the amount of water that must be each plant.
With two drops buttons, each plant gets eight liters of water per hour.
“” Under traditional methods, providing fertilizer to 4,000 plants requires at least three days.
However, under the current system, in one hour, we can complete work.
Also, under this technology, we ensure that every plant gets the amount of fertilizer same, “he said.
Shivaprasad has designed agriculture in such a way that after every six plants there are trails so that harvest and spraying can be taken by moving in a pickup vehicle.
“We have made provisions to cover the three plants of each vehicle.
With this, the seven-day work can be completed in two days, so it saves labor,” he said.
The work is underway over the past six months and may be the first of its kind in the region.
He has also built a 5 latric water tank that can supply water to 20,000 plants in one hour.
At present, in the construction business, Shivaprasad plans to grow vegetables and fruits on the property in the future.
