Brussels: The European Union ambassador on Wednesday agreed to expand the sanctions against Belarus to target the regime to send thousands of migrants to the block border, diplomats said.
Move the law to pave the way for foreign ministers from the 27-state group meeting next Monday to approve individual rafts and new companies to add blacklisters.
EU members said Poland on Wednesday attacked in Minsk because of “state terrorism” because fears grew more than 2,000 migrants trapped on their borders with Belarus.
Brussels accused the Authority of Belarusian “human trafficking” by luring thousands of migrants and sent them to try to cross to the EU.
It was seen as a tactic in retaliation for UE sanctions.
Diplomats said the European Union wanted to add around 30 individuals and entities, including Belarusian Belarusian state airlines and travel agents, for freezing assets and blacklisters blacklisted over the crisis.
Experts aim to complete the list in the coming days, before the Foreign Minister met in Brussels, diplomats said.
The European Union has slapped sanctions in 166 people related to the Belarus regime – including Alexander President Lukashenko and his son – for the crackdown on the opponent since the election of a fight last year.
Brussels is now scrambling to stem the flow of migrants to Belarus by reaching the countries, especially in the Middle East, to convince them to stop people going up to Minsk.
Blocks have contemplated targeting airline from outside Belarus flying to the country, but a European diplomat told AFP it was “unclear” if there was a political will to do this.
The EU messenger will soon visit a series of countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey, to try to suppress them to prevent travel, said Josep Borrell’s foreign policy head.
