Ghaziabad: The ‘Pink Auto’ project, which was launched in Ghaziabad five years ago and failed to draw a lot of takers, might see a resurrection.
In the upper government leading program, Mission Shakti, Ghaziabad Regional Transport Authority has decided to introduce 100 pink cars in the district to “promote security, dignity and women’s empowerment”.
“On the sidelines of the GDA council meeting, the Transport Authority met on Thursday under the Meerut Division Commissioner.
Decided that 100 permits for Pink Autos will be given in the next two weeks,” said Vishujeet Singh, Arto (Administration), Ghaziabad.
“Fresh batch Pink Autos will operate from Kavinagar, Indirapuram, Raj Nagar, Raj Nagar extension, Vaishali and Vasundhara.
They will have permission to ply in a 16km radius of the center given,” Singh added.
The concept of Pink Autos was first introduced in Ghaziabad in 2016, but in a hurry for years.
In the past five years, RTO has given permission only 25 pink autos, which is only 23 available.
According to the rules set during the first launch of Pink Autos, vehicles are allowed to serve only female passengers.
The norms are then tweaked so that men who accompany women passengers can be allowed to rise.
This auto is intended to be equipped with GPS, electronic meters and protective gril to ensure passenger safety and should be available at various intersections throughout the city.
“It’s hard to see pink auto and when we need it,” said Shivangi Mishra, a resident of Kavinagar.
“I’m not sure whether all pink cars have a GPS installed or not, but the lattices or cages make me feel like Claustrophobic.
Instead of giving me a sense of security, it intimidates,” Mishra added.
Asha Bhalla, a citizen Indirapuram, said, “according to the rules, Pink Autos must only transport female passengers.
There are a few examples when I only see the man who accommodates this autos.
There is no one upholding the rules.” The concept of pink auto has fallen.
I feel It is more than government propaganda rather than actually instilling a sense of security among women.
“Dinesh, a car driver operating on the Vaishali route, sharing his thoughts about why autos pink falls.
He said, “The driver usually does not apply to automatic pink permits because of the restrictions they have to follow.
For us, a passenger is a passenger.
We don’t mind whether it’s a man or woman until when we are placed or reprimanded.” Almost agree that Pink Autos It hasn’t taken off, an official from Ghaziabad RTO said, “We know that the Pink Auto driver stands for loss compared to ordinary automatic drivers because of the rules.
It explains why only 25 people have submitted it in recent years.” He added, “he added,” this is a government decision To give 100 permits for auto pink.
We only hope that with an increase in number, Pink Autos will be popular and safe mode of transportation for women.
