Facebook Inc.
plans to rent 10,000 in the European Union for the next five years, said the social media giant on Monday, to help build what is called Metaverse – a newly born online world where people exist and communicate in a virtual space together.
This will be an important step taken by the company to the concept, something Mark Zuckerberg’s top boss has been mentioned in recent months.
In September, Facebook committed $ 50 million to build metaverse, where companies such as Rollox Corp and Epic “Fortnite” games have an initial footing.
The company previously launched a new virtual-reality long-distance work application test where the Oculus Quest 2 headset users could hold meetings as avatars from themselves.
Facebook also said that in July it created a product team to work on Metaverse which would be part of Facebook Reality Labs, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality Group.
“This investment (in new work) is the selection of trust in the strength of the European technology industry and the potential of European technology talents,” said the company.
“Europe is very important for Facebook.”
