MySuru / Shivamogga: Farmers, under the banner of the state cane farmers’ association, on Tuesday blocking Jalan Mysuru-Ooty protested the central step to change the Electricity Law (2003).
When the Government Government will be determined to bring change in action, farmers take to the streets and block traffic.
They said laws strive to assess the license of the distribution-person business, which is a tactic to adopt electricity meters to irrigation pumps.
This is also to privatize the Department of Energy, they stated.
Leading Protests, the President of the Shantakumar Kurur Association said there were 32 lakh pump irrigation in the state, which was proposed to have an electrical meter, which would eventually collect electricity bills from the agricultural community.
He said the privatization of the electricity sector could have a long-term impact on the agricultural sector.
Meanwhile, farmers in Shivamogga joined members of the Shivamogga District Congress Committee in taking a parade from the Congress office to the DC office protested the proposed amendment.
They caused a slogan against the United States said the draft electricity bill seeks to end free electricity supply to the agricultural pump.
“Farmers face the financial crisis and cannot take additional burdens of electricity bills.
This amendment aims to help private players,” they accused.
