Farmers turn to white selling varieties developed by Mandya Scientists

MySuru: White finger varieties developed by Zonal Agricultural Research Station Scientists, V C farm, Mandya are now preferred by farmers because they have a large demand from the bakery industry.
Scientists inform you that it is more nutritious compared to traditional wheat varieties.
Can be remembered that more than 30 finger varieties have been developed by researchers at VC Farm so far.
“Varieties in Demand – KMR 340 – Released in 2018.
Now more popular among millions of fingers.
Last year, we sold more than 100 quintal seeds,” explained SN Vasudeva Rao, Director of Research, Zonal Agricultural Research Station, V C farm.
“This variety was developed by researchers led by CR Ravishankar,” he explained.
“It’s more nutritious compared to traditional millet finger varieties.
It has a big demand from the bakery sector,” he added.
According to the authorities, various selling fingers are planted both in irrigation land and in rainfed agriculture.
The harvest period is 90 to 100 days.
On irrigation land, 40 to 45 quintals selling fingers are estimated per hectare of land while 30 to 35 quintals in rainfield fields.
At present, these varieties are planted by several farmers at Mandya.
According to farmers, various white fingers are not new for farmers.
“First, there is a variety of black fingers.
Varieties selling red fingers are developed.
The farmers have fostered white finger varieties for the past 7-8 years by buying seeds of white finger varieties from private companies.
The seeds are very expensive,” said Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha President Badagalapura Nagendra.
