LOS ANGELES: A father and son have been arrested on charges of starting a large forest fires that burn more than 200,000 hectares in North California this summer, a local official said.
David Smith, 66, and Travis Smith, 32, were charged with starting a fire that caused a fire known as Fire Caldor on August 14 near Lake Tahoe, a dense woodland area popular with tourists.
Need a 67-day firefighter to bring fire under control, during that time five people were injured and 1,000 housing or commercial buildings were destroyed, according to the California firefight department.
El Dorado District Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement that the two men were charged with reckless burning and were being arrested.
The fire Caldor encouraged the evacuation from several dozen people in the region at the border with Nevada, which is located near the largest alpine lake in North America.
