Rajkot: Mahatma Gandhi always supports the virtue of goat’s milk.
Now, feta cheese, made from goat milk, will soon be about the market with Sursagar Sursagar Dairy Chalking out a complicated plan to make this dairy product.
Sursagar Dairy will soon hold a meeting with Sahjeevan, a voluntary organization who works with pastoral families in Saurashtra and Kutch and tells the Federation of Gujarat’s milk marketing cooperative (GCMMF) to complete the launch of the Feta cheese in December.
GCMMF, which markets the Amul brand, has shown interest in selling feta cheese, which has no fat.
Manoj Mishra, Executive Director of Sahjeevan, told Toi: “We held a meeting with GCMMF officials last week about the launch of the Feta cheese.
They tested the production of smaller cheese volumes and will test the production of 2,000 liters of milk.” Mishra said the launch was planned on Sunday First or second December.
GCMMF, Sursagar Dairy Official and Team Sahjeevan will soon meet to complete the date and they plan to invite Parsottam Rupala, Minister of Fisheries, Livestock, and Maker, for launch.
Feta cheese is made in several selected and Indian places importing cheese from Denmark and France.
Goat milk has almost fat niles and that’s why it’s useful for making cheese.
There are many pastoral families in Surendranagar involved in goat breeding.
At present, they sell goat milk in the open market and some of them also mix it with cow’s milk or buffalo.
Sursagar Dairy, who provides milk in this district, has identified 17 bags in Sayla and Chotila Talukas to get this milk.
This milk will initially be purchased at the existing bulk milk chiller (BMC) and if needed, they will also have a cellular BMC that can keep milk cool for six to seven hours.
There are around 500 families engaged in goat breeding and milk can get 8,000 liters of milk per day but at the initial stages they plan to get 2,000 liters.
Gurdit Singh, Managing Director, Sursagar Dairy said, “I got a message from GCMMF that they would launch the Feta cheese.
We have provided goat milk to be tried and we have information ready to get this milk.” GCMMF RS Sodhi RS Managing Director said, ” We are positive about the marketing of goat cheese which is our initial planning.
We are conducting a trial and the launch date has not been completed.
