Rajkot: A fisherman from Gujarat who was trapped in Pakistani prison for more than four years only because typographic mistakes in his middle name by the authorities there, has been released together with 19 others.
Babu Bambhaniya, a resident of Nava Village, Bandar Taluka in Gir Somnath, is expected to reach its home village on Wednesday.
According to the detail of the case, Babu was arrested by the Pakistani Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) in March 2017 along with five other fishermen.
But five members of his crew were released within six months after the arrest after completing a prison sentence.
The reason why he wasn’t released was a typographic mistake in his father’s name.
According to the Note of Indian authorities, Babu’s father’s name is ‘Chrysanthemum’, but Pakistani authorities have mentioned it as ‘ran’.
Ajay Shiyal, a social worker from Amreli, who represents the problem with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Pakistan said, “Babu had been released but had to return from the border of Wagis because of a typo.
We lost hope for his release now but suddenly we got it The news that he was among the 20 fishermen issued by Pakistan.
“The Sulung Son of Babu works with local fishermen and is the only breadwinner for the family.
Two other children – a son and daughter – are studying.
