Navi Mumbai: Foot-Top Bridge (FOB) Project Vashi Project Rs 2.44 Crore, the Connect 9 and 15 sectors along the main road segment, has been re-appointed by local residents along with Congress Party activists who do not want FOB to come at the location.
Navi Mumbai Congress Secretary General, Vaibhav Sawant, told Tii, “We have asked Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation to cancel plans to build a FOB in Vashi, because local residents and shop owners do not want to be in the first place.
Also, more Rs 2,44 Crore from public money will be used for infrastructure, which is not really necessary.
The bridge will end like so many other wasted FOBs where most hawkers or beggar traders are seen.
” Sawant further stated, “We have sent our protest letter to this FOB plan for the NMMC commissioner, and I will continue with this peace agitation if the civil body does not cancel this project.” Previously, another Vashi resident, Rohitt Malhotra, also wrote against Vashi FOB for NMMC.
“A few years ago, the same FOB was to come elsewhere along the road.
However, local shop owners had protested at that time.
Now, the bridge site has shifted a few meters ahead.
However, most people here Don’t want this FOB, “said Malhotra.
A delegation from activists met Commissioner of Abhijit City Bangar on Friday, and he said he would look further into the problem.
“If this expensive FOB is built, then at least 10 more useless bridges will be built along the way to Koparkhaire.
This is a wasteful expenditure that will only make some rich civil contractors, and poor NMMC,” said Sawant.
