Patna: The former JD (U) MLA from Dumraon, Dadan Singh Pahalwan, has formed Bihar Kushti Sangh (Indian style) to promote wrestling in the state.
Pahalwan has been nominated as President and Kameshwar Singh Secretary General.
The former legislator, who himself was the wrestler before stepping into politics, said the carrier of the SANGGA office would identify the ‘Akharas’ for the old state and inspired young people to join the organization, which would hold wrestling practices regularly.
Sangh has decided to regulate the state-level wrestling championship in Motahari in the East Chamaran district and then a national event in Madhepura which will be attended by several famous wrestles in the country, he said.
“Wrestling is not only good for health, but also provides an opportunity to show a person’s talent at the national level.
We will urge the state government to provide work to young wrestlers in sports quota to promote traditional sports,” he told this reporter by telephone.
He quoted a number of names like Yogeshwar Dutt, Sushil Kumar, Narsingh Pancham Yadav, Geeta Phogat and Sakshi Malik, who were offered good work by the state government or the central government, depending on their choice.
“Our idea is to create at least one ‘Akhara’ in every village so that young people who waste their time in gossip and other non-productive gossip, practice wrestling regularly.
This will be very helpful in the nation building,” said the former minister.
He expressed concern over a sorry struggle, which had been practiced since Ramayana and the era of Mahabharata.
Pahalwan said he would do whatever needed to revive wrestling in the state.
