T’puram: Four fishermen were killed and some were injured when two vans collided on the national highway in Chavara in Kollam at 12:30 a.m.
on Tuesday.
The deceased and injured were fishermen from coastal villages in Thiruvananthapuram, Nagercoil and Kankumari.
Chavara police identified the deceased as a Burkuman (47) from Pulluvila, Justin (48) from Vizhinjam, Karunambaram (59) from Pulluvila and Biju (38) from TN.
They are part of the group of 34 members traveling by mini buses to Beypore to join the fishing crew.
The police said the accident occurred in my vettamuk when a van traveled in the opposite direction to the wrong track and hit a mini-bus.
The van will go to Neendakara carrying frozen fish.
The mini bus then crashed into the bus before it was upside down.
Residents, police and firefighting and rescue personnel rushed to the place and were interesting to get injured from the mini-bus.
They rushed to Karunagappely Taluk Hospital, where four fishermen were pronounced dead.
Among those injured, six were shifted to medical colleges.
From this, the two conditions are said to be serious.
Others were given medical assistance at Karunagappy Taluk Hospital.
