Rajkot: Four people were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly preparing fake documents to register a marriage between one of the charges and a woman from another faith, who had married running from Palitana Bhavnagar a month ago.
Elopement has produced a massive anger with the right-wing organization such as Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) that accuses ‘love jihad’.
However, the woman told the police in her statement that she had gone alone with Zakir Haroon Saiyyed and not under coercion.
The couple also returned to Palitana after getting their marriage registered in Delhi.
However, the local investigation by Crime Branch (LCB) expressed more involvement of people, including three of Delhi, which made fake documents to get married.
Along with Zakir, the police arrested Gulab Khan Pathhan, Habib Khan Pathan and Aftab aka Altaf Sheikh, all of which had been booked in the relevant IPC section related to counterfeiting and criminal conspiracy.
Police also ordered Mohammed Qadri, native Palitana and three others – Nitu, Anup Singh and Rajesh – who facilitate the documentation in Delhi for the purpose of ‘nikahnama’.
On December 25, VHP had also received a call for bandh after the incident.
N Jadeja, police sub-inspector, LCB, said the couple first went to the letter and then to Delhi, where they got a registered marriage.
