Berlin: Germany reported a record of 140,160 new Koronavirus cases on Friday when the state health minister warned that the country could see at least 400,000 per day in mid-February.
That number will be achieved with an optimistic scenario where Booster’s shot provides excellent protection, said Karl Lauterbach in a discussion with the leaders of the state government, the sources involved in talks to Reuters on Thursday.
That number can climb more than 600,000 new cases every day if booster shooting is less protective, he said, according to sources.
Lauterbach also said he expected numbers in intensive care in hospitals to increase significantly for the coming weeks.
More than 116,000 people have died in Germany in connection with Coronavirus.
A week ago, Germany reported 92,223 new daily cases.
About 73% of the German population had basic immunization of Coronavirus, and 49% had a booster shot, according to Robert Koch Institute for infectious diseases.
Federal and state leaders in Germany will discuss Monday steps to curb a massive increase in the case of the Koronavirus.
