Berlin: Omicron Coronavirus variants can reduce pressure on the German health system if it turns out to produce a lighter disease, even though infection increases, the head of the Senior Hospital Doctor Association (VLK) said on Sunday.
VLK President Michael Weber said Coronavirus would no longer be a threat to the health system if Omicron became dominant in Germany because in South Africa, England or Denmark and if the infection was dominated by light as there.
“There is a realistic probability that the pandemic will also be endemic in this country,” Weber told the newspaper Welt Am Sonntag.
When Omicron spreads in Germany, daily infections have increased again in the last few days after falling steadily in December, and the number of beds occupied in the intensive care ward also beat.
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach also stated optimism that Omicron seemed to be less dangerous than the previous variant, but he noted that it was still a risk for parents who were not vaccinated.
“The first vaccination drastically reduces the risk of death after only 14 days.
I begged people: Get vaccinated!”, Lauterbach told Bild Am Sonntag newspaper.
Very contagious Omicron variants have caused a surge in the case of Koronavirus throughout the world.
Infections around the world have reached a high record, with an average of more than one million cases detected daily between 24 and 30 December, according to Reuters data.
However, death so far has not risen at the same speed, bringing the expectations of its variant less deadly.
On Sunday, Germany reported 12,515 new infections, with seven days incident per 100,000 people rose to 222.7 from 220.3 the previous day.
46 more people died, bringing the death toll in a pandemic to 112,155.
Lauterbach also said wearing an important face mask.
“The viral burden of those infected with omicron is lower, which is why the mask is more effective.
Everyone must wear a mask when meeting others.”
