Berlin: German officials said on Friday that economic damage from floods in the west of the country would be very large.
More than half of 53 countries in the North Rhine-Westphalia state were influenced by flooding, which damaged hundreds of buildings.
At least 43 people died in the state.
North Rhine-Westphalia Governor, Armin Laschet, said the flood has “really pulled the ground from under the feet of many people.
They lost their homes, agriculture or their business.” Federal and state officials have promised financial assistance to affected areas Germany, who also included the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, where at least 60 people died and all villages were destroyed.
Some religious organizations have called on donations to help residents who lose everything in flooding.
German economic damage is also expected to be severe.
Some factories were flooded and the main infrastructure, including parts of the A1 highway from Cologne to Bonn, were swept away.
