GK Pillai, Yeseeryear Thespian with Bariton’s voice, die

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran actor GK Pillai died of age-related diseases on Friday morning.
He is 97 years old.
He is one of the oldest actors in the Malayalam film industry.
Pillai has acted in more than 325 Malayalam films in his 65-year-old career and is known to revolutionize the role of antagonists in the Malayalam film industry.
He once said that the close relationship with Prem Nazir’s final actor took him to the film industry.
Snehaustema (1954) is his first film.
He had served in the armed forces before entering the film.
Born in 1924 to Govinda Pillai and Saraswathiyaamma in Chirayinkezhu in Thiruvananthapuram, G Kesava Pilla joined the army at the age of 16 and served the country for 12 years.
His wife Ulthpalakshi Amma has approached him and he survived his son Prathapachandran, Srekala R Nair, Sreelekha Mohan, Sreekumari B Pillai, Chandramohan and Priyadarshan.
He was cremated in his home city in Varkala at around 6pm.
Highly respected actors, Bariton Pillai’s voice is a stand-out feature that won many roles and several film awards.
Known because of his criminal character, Pillai was one of the busiest actors in the 70s and was active until the late 1980s.
Pillai, who rested from the film later, returned to acting in 2005 through a television series.
Among them, he also tried politics and was seen in the circle of the Congress party too.
Snapaka Yohan, Thumbolararcha, Light House, Nayaru Pidicha Puliva, Kannur Deluxe, Stanarthi Saramma, lottery tickets, Harischandra, Manthravadhi, Pattabhishekam, KoodepirAppu, Aswamedam, Aromal Unni, Choola, Children, and Karyasthan are some of their popular films.
Kadamahattathu Kathanar and Kunkumapoovu is one of the popular TV series that he acted.
Holling his death, Chairman of Pinarayi Minister Vijayan remembered Pillai as an actor who obtained a place in different generations through his unique acting style.
The price poured for veteran actors.
Aswathy, who plays an actor’s granddaughter late in ‘Kumkumapoovu’, was taken to Instagram and wrote, “May your soul rest calmly”.
“This is the last day of this year and GK Pillai Chettan also chose to bid adieu on the same day.
Condolences,” Posted Actor Kishor Satya on Instagram.
