Panaji: Flyers made a last-minute water dash for Goa to celebrate the new year having light fears on Friday after the runway lights did not function at the Goa International Airport and the runway became dark, influencing flight operations.
Indian naval sources and airport officials said disorders lasted for a while and were repaired in about 20 minutes.
Despite the high operating frequency, the airline reported that the arrival and departure disrupted only 10-15 minutes.
“According to the information received from air traffic control, foundation lights are not available.
They have been repaired now and the operation has returned to normal,” said the Gagan Malik Goa Airport director.
He has issued an update for passengers and airlines on social media asking them to expect late arrival and flight departure.
The Indian Navy Electrical Team corrects an error and does full inspection of the electrical circuit and ensures that the lights are restored.
Airports in Dabolim operate outside the Naval Air Base, INS Hansa and Aerodrome managed by the Indian Navy.
Spicejet SG-8645 flights from Delhi and Indigo Flight 6E-806 from Bengaluru must be circling while the Navy repair damage to the runway.
A similar diversity has occurred on November 19 and the Navy has managed to correct errors in about 20 minutes.
